5 of our Fave Artists at Project 6 Festival

From Keyrah's cosmic blends to Oscar #Worldpeace's post-grime raps, here are five artists not to be missed at Project 6 this year.

Kicking off festival season in style, Project 6 returns to Brockwell Park this month for its second installment and it’s shaping up to be a very special event. Collaborating with Rinse FM to celebrate 30 years of the station’s broadcasting, from its heritage as a leading pirate radio to the vanguard of underground music, the Peckham all-dayer boasts a flawless program filled with pioneers of their respective scenes.

UK road rap legend Nines shares the top billing next to NYC street wordsmith Pusha T while Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are coming together to honour 10 years since the release of their iconic album, Piñata. Elsewhere, left-field electronic maestro SBTRKT and UK drill pioneer Unknown T sit alongside former Mercury Prize winner, Ms. Dynamite. Dig a little deeper on the line-up, and there are plenty of emerging stars across the club and rap spectrum that we’re very excited to see. Tap into five of our favourites below.

Keyrah

Sprawling from squelchy ghetto tech to percussive house and deep Afro rhythms, Keyrah’s cosmic sets formulate with a celestial finesse akin to star constellations: the intricate patterns and illuminating moments feeling completely otherworldly. Birmingham-born and London-based, the DJ’s debut MISC night sold out Pickle Factory and she counts CASISDEAD, Mansur Brown and Jorja Smith as fans, all of whom she’s warmed up for on their tours.

Oscar #WORLDPEACE

Tottenham-hailing rapper Oscar #WORLDPEACE beams hip-hop through a kaleidoscope of warped synths, bop-worthy basslines and his trademark nasally flows. Alongside Ragz Originale and BenjiFlow, who make up the MINIKINGZ collective, he produces music with an attentive swagger, drawing from a range of genres that help the bubbling underground wordsmith stay in a lane completely his own. The North Londoner will be taking his new mixtape, Mum, Pray for Your Son, to Project 6’s Places + Faces stage this month.

Vigro Deep

One of Amapiano’s foremost experimentalists, Vigro Deep’s influence on contemporary club music reaches far beyond South Africa. Veering toward the genre's darker side, his global music ethos has seen him play across the world to critical acclaim, recording legendary Keep Hush sets and shutting down super clubs like Ministry of Sound in equal measure. Expect some serious sub-bass, electro-house heaters and the odd curveball remix as well.

Client_03

Client_03’s identity is still unknown, although people have had their share of guesses as to who could be behind the VR-electro project. Om Unit, Fracture and Fixate have all been put forward, but the cyborg-like figure has maintained an elusive allure since breaking out a few years back. Nevertheless, their mutant, industrial releases pack a punch with metallic beat loops, robotic vocal exchanges and spectral synth lines, providing some of the most forward-thinking electronic music we’ve heard in a while.

Eich

Warming up the Hessle Audio crew every week on Rinse FM with a transcendental mix of bass, techno and dubstep, Eich’s blistering blends have solidified herself among UK club’s elite. Alongside her record label-cum-community More Cowbell, the Norwich native has ushered in a new generation of 140 fanatics, bringing them together under one roof to rave with the hedonistic freedom we’ll be craving at this year’s Project 6 festival.
